When learning English, children will be taught vocabulary, sentence structures, listening and speaking. However, speaking skill takes time to complete than other skills. Therefore, it is necessary to have children practice speaking English from an early age. To help develop speaking skills early, Global Learn suggests an English speaking method for children in the following stages.
Stage 1 – familiarize the language
At this stage, the kids have just learning English, their vocabulary, structure and pronunciation are still weak, so practice of speaking English for children at this stage focuses mainly on pronunciation and repetition what they hear. They can be taught simple sentences such as “This is a pen” or “Wash your hands”, … Along with the speaking structure, they are also taught vocabulary related, so they can also was taught how to replace vocabulary related to the structure studied, such as “This is a pen” was replaced by “This is a computer”.
Why do we have to find an English teacher for kids from an early age?
Stage 2 – apply to life
After learning and memorizing lots of patterns and vocabulary, children should be given the opportunity to apply what they have learned in the context of everyday life. For example, in that context, what would they say in English? Or ask your children to answer, for example, there is a black cat in front of the house, ask your children about the color of the cat, how many feet does it have, do you like cats?etc. All answers must be in English so your child can respond in English. Have children practice speaking English at this stage is helping them reflect with English quickly and use all they’ve learnt as a reflect.
Stage 3 – train critical thinking
At this stage, they have some knowledge of English, so have children practice speaking English at this time is to develop their thinking in English so that they can speak what they want to say in English easily. At this stage, ask them to say more than one sentence, and let them talk about what they thinks in English. Give her a small topic, or a small question about today, about a classmate, and they have to tell things occur today, or describe that person, more than one sentence, and completely in English.
The time of each stage depends on the ability of the children, so the parents must always persist and be along with children.
