Do not practice listening often
There is no magic method that can help you to listen – understand English better if you do not listen to English regularly. Listening is the first and simplest thing you can do to get in touch with and become familiar with a new language (even if you do not understand what you are hearing). How did the children learn a new language? They hear English continuously every day, 365 days / year, for many years. Then they babble to talk and go to school to read, learn to write.
Of course, with an effective method of learning to listen – understand English, you do not have to listen for many years to speak, read and write. Frequent listening is compulsory if you want to be good at English.
Listen to too little content
Today you hear the word “book”, you understand the book. But 30 days later, you hear the word “book”, many times you do not remember what it means. That will happen if you listen to a word (or content) too few times.
You need to listen to a certain content many times to remember deep into the subconscious. So, you can understand immediately without thinking at the next listen.
Listen but do not understand
Many of you think that just listen to many will understand. But you think, if you do not understand, you hear 100 times, 1,000 times also do not understand. You will probably hear, but you do not understand. You have to understand what you hear, then listen to it many times to remember.
Try to listen to the lessons too hard
If you are not good at listening and want to learn to listen – understand English progress faster, listen to the songs that are difficult to suit your level. When you are comfortable with simple listening, keep challenging yourself with harder listening. On the other hand, if you are not good at listening but try to listen to the songs too hard, that will not help you improve much, even make you self-deprecating.
Not paying attention
You have been told many times that “Good pronunciation will sound better.” This is absolutely right. Why is that? Simply because the wrong pronunciation, you will be familiar with the wrong pronunciation. When you hear the correct pronunciation, you will not know exactly what the person is saying.
Listen to each word
This is one of the most common mistakes but hardly anyone recognizes.
